Clear answers, practical tools, and trusted information about ABA therapy to support your child’s development.

What is ABA Therapy & Who Benefits?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapy that helps children develop meaningful skills while reducing behaviors that may interfere with learning, communication, safety, and daily life. ABA uses individualized, compassionate, and data-driven strategies to teach new skills, increase independence, and improve quality of life. Every treatment plan is personalized to meet each child’s unique strengths, needs, and goals.

Key benefits of ABA therapy:

  • Comprehensive Assessments (FBA)

Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify your child’s unique strengths, needs, and the underlying function of behaviors. The assessment includes direct observations across multiple settings, as well as an in-depth parent or caregiver interview to gain valuable insight into your child’s development, daily routines, and family priorities. Based on the assessment findings, we develop an individualized, evidence-based treatment plan designed to promote meaningful skill development and positive behavior change.

How Do I Know If My Child Could Benefit from ABA Therapy?

Although ABA therapy is most commonly associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), it can also benefit children with a variety of developmental, behavioral, communication, and adaptive challenges. Every child is unique, and the following signs may indicate that an ABA evaluation could be beneficial.

Communication Delays

Difficulty expressing wants and needs, initiating communication, or delays in speech and language development.

Repetitive Behaviors

Repetitive movements or behaviors, intense interests in specific objects or activities, and difficulty adapting to changes in routines or environments.

Challenging Behaviors

Frequent or intense tantrums, aggression, self-injurious behaviors, or impulsive behaviors that interfere with learning, safety, or daily activities.

Learning & Attention

Difficulty following directions, maintaining attention, learning new skills, or keeping up with age-appropriate developmental expectations.

Adaptive Living Skills

Difficulty developing independence in daily living skills such as dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, following daily routines, or completing age-appropriate self-care tasks.

Early Intervention is Key

Research shows that starting ABA therapy early, particularly during the preschool years, can support the development of communication, social, and daily living skills. Early intervention provides children with opportunities to build a strong foundation for learning, independence, and long-term success.

Every child develops at their own pace, and no two children are alike. An early evaluation by a qualified professional can help identify your child’s unique strengths and areas of need, allowing for a personalized treatment plan that supports meaningful progress and helps each child reach their full potential.

Clear answers to families’ most frequently asked questions.

What makes ABA therapy medically necessary?

Medical necessity is determined through a comprehensive clinical evaluation, including a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), which identifies skill deficits and behaviors that significantly affect a child’s communication, learning, safety, independence, or participation in everyday activities. Health insurance providers review this clinical information, along with their own medical necessity criteria, to determine eligibility for ABA services.

Why are periodic re-evaluations required?

Periodic re-evaluations help measure your child’s progress, update treatment goals, and ensure that therapy continues to meet your child’s evolving needs. They also provide the clinical documentation required by many health insurance providers to support continued authorization of ABA services.

How is my child’s progress measured?

Progress is measured through objective data collected during every therapy session. Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) regularly review this information to evaluate skill development, communication, social interaction, adaptive living skills, and reductions in behaviors that may interfere with learning, safety, independence, or participation in daily activities.

Progress is also measured by your child’s ability to generalize and use these skills across different environments, including home, school, and the community.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

We believe that meaningful progress is achieved through teamwork. When children receive services from multiple providers, we collaborate with families and other professionals to promote consistency across therapies and support each child’s individualized goals.

  • Speech, Occupational & Physical Therapy

When a child is receiving Speech Therapy (SLP), Occupational Therapy (OT), or Physical Therapy (PT), our clinical team collaborates with those providers to promote consistency across treatment plans, reinforce complementary goals, and support the child’s overall development.

  • Schools & Childcare Centers

With parent or guardian authorization, we collaborate with teachers, school staff, and childcare providers to promote consistent behavioral strategies across environments and support each child’s success in educational settings.

  • Pediatricians & Medical Specialists

With the consent of the parent or legal guardian, we collaborate with pediatricians, neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals involved in your child’s care. When clinically appropriate, we may exchange relevant treatment information to support coordinated and comprehensive care. We will conduct any information exchange in a manner that protects the confidentiality and security of your child’s health information, in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and only with the appropriate authorizations when required.
